ASTAR STUDIOS EXTENDS - RECORDING LOANS FOR 2010...

A unique scheme that provides musicians with interest free loans of up to £5000 for recording services has been extended for 2010. Applications are now being invited for the 0% Recording Loans that are exclusively available to artists and bands recording at Astar Studios www.astarstudios.com . The loans are provided subject to status and can be repaid over a maximum period of 2 years.

Based in Heywood, Lancashire with nearby residential facilities, Astar Studios is owned by international writer/producer Andy Ross (Clippers, Spain) and has been custom built to meet the growing demands of today’s cost conscious record labels and flourishing independent music scene that continues to prosper with over 150 million download sales last year.

The elegantly designed studio boasts the latest state-of-the-art digital control room technology, a spectacular classic-sounding live room and relaxing chill-out area. For artists looking to release independently and engage directly with the market, special recording packages are available with support from creative and promotional associates with a wealth of music industry experience and for projects needing session players, Astar draws upon some of the UK’s finest musicians.

Despite the recent closure of London’s famous Mayfair and Olympic Studios and EMI currently looking to offload Abbey Road, since Astar Studios opened, Andy Ross has been flat out writing for and producing an eclectic mix of back to back albums, for independent and major release including the highly acclaimed ‘Yamaha New Jazz Sessions’ albums that have featured in successive years on the Xmas cover of Jazzwise Magazine. Andy also recorded tracks for Classic FM’s ‘Summer Piano’ CD and the highly acclaimed debut trio album ‘Golden’ (Basho) by BBC Jazz Awards winner, Kit Downes that recently received a 4 star review from Guardian Jazz Critic John Fordham. International writing credits last year included 3 tracks on the new ‘G Punto’ album ‘Da La Cara’ (Universal/Vale) and a commission for Andy to write and produce the music for ‘Anphoria’s Empire’ – a new classic rock style music spectacular set to tour UK arenas from Autumn 2011 with an all-star cast, using a new generation of special effects set around a fantasy storyline by Temple Clark, storyboard artist for the Harry Potter and Bond movies.

Astar’s Andy Ross explains, “We are delighted with the success of the loan scheme that has enabled us to work with talented musicians we might otherwise have had to turn away on grounds of means. Getting any type of credit has always been extremely difficult for musicians, so the opportunity to offer interest free finance for recording services sits well with Astar’s philosophy to empower artists with the best possible recordings, visuals and business plan to get them noticed. The loans are of course subject to status but can be taken out either by the artist directly or on their behalf by a manager, family member or friend. This opens the door for artists and bands to make the record they always dreamed of and spread costs of promotion and gigging. For independent managers and labels on a limited budget it also creates the opportunity to develop new artists on a profit share basis.”

Astar Studios is licensed as a credit broker by the Office of Fair Trading and a member of the Association of Professional Recording Services.

Features

Kings Of Leon - announce first release...

a new record from The Features, which is the first release on the Kings Of Leon's label 'Serpents And Snakes'. They released their debut back in 2005 via universal, got some big time love from the press (as you can see below), and won the Diesel U-Music Pop/Rock award in '06.
And for the first time since way back then, they'll be playing some headline shows in the UK in the coming months.

Reviews...
The Times - Brilliant. 4 stars
NME - 8 of 10 stars
Q Magazine -
 Q Recommends: 4 stars
Evening Standard - 5/5 - Extraordinarily catchy anthems
MOJO - 4 Stars - An amp-popping live show and a catalogue of songs that at once recall the Pixies and Blurs post Pavement fixation"
The Guardian
 - A dazzling romp through Buzzcocks-like spiky pop and agitated soul reminiscent of the Animals. Powerful and poignant, The Features are difficult to ignore
RockSound - What a ridiculously promising album The Features debut looks set to be. Leave It All Behind is a stomping anthem that should break them into the big time and see them bandied around in conversations about The Killers and Kings of Leon
The Sun - You just know this latest American import can blaze an all-conquering trail over here. There are more hooks than an angling shop.

SKA TOONS - playing Springwell...

on Saturday 6th March
Bar open 8-Midnight

An Evening with  - Chumbawamba...

& Special Guests
Lubetkin Theatre
East Durham College
, Peterlee
6th March
7.00pm
Ticket price  - £10

Chumbawamba take to the stage once more to celebrate the release of their new album ABCDEFG. The theme of the album is music - that volatile stuff which both the band and their audience have shared for as long as they can remember - and the new songs cover such diverse topics as the wearing of iPods in public places, censorship of music under repressive regimes and the power of the voice, Oh, and Simon Cowell's come-uppance.

They are joined on the tour by fellow No Masters artisits O'Hooley & Tidow; dapper-suited gentlewomen with a wryly observant, melancholic and sometimes uncomfortable take on life, creating their very own brand of contempoary folk song, with stark and beautiful piano playing that some will recognise from Belinda O'Hooley's time as a pianist with the Unthanks. O'Hooley & Tidow will be playing songs from their new album, Silent June.

Plans to Revive - famous Globe Theatre ...globe

Plans to fully restore and relaunch one of the North East’s most historic and best known live music venues have been announced.

Property development company, Jomast, has submitted a planning application to Stockton Borough Council to bring back the famous Globe Theatre as a prestigious live performance and entertainment venue with an audience capacity of 2500.

The Globe, located on Stockton High Street, was one of the region’s best known music venues during the 1950’s and 60’s and attracted major artists including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly and Cliff Richard. Originally built as a cinema in 1913, the building is still renowned for its art-deco architecture and was last used as a bingo hall before closing its doors in 1993.

However, if planning permission is given, The Globe could once again see the return of many top performance artists to Teesside and reinvent Stockton as one of the UK’s most cultural and popular live music centres.

Proposals submitted by Jomast include a multimillion pound restoration programme to retain all major elements of the existing building as used in the past as well as upgrading and installing new seating, catering and washroom facilities. It also includes extending the venue and converting an adjacent vacant property into a modern bar and bistro.

Jomast Managing Director, Stuart Monk, said, “The Globe is a very impressive and iconic building with an exceptionally rich history in live music and entertainment. We intend to completely restore it and bring it back to its former glory.

“The present external appearance and character of the buildings will be fully retained and preserved and the internal layout will be largely unchanged in order to maintain the existing space and architectural features. However, we do intend to significantly improve facilities and add a new bar area in the stalls as well as extend the existing building to create a high quality bar and bistro for pre-performance and daytime use.

“Our development plans are substantial but if granted, The Globe could once again be at the forefront of the region’s music scene and play an integral part in the revival and regeneration of Stockton town centre.”

Jomast is one of North’s leading companies incorporating residential development, commercial property development and leisure & hospitality. Visit www.jomast.co.uk for more details.

Take 2 glam punx, add a dash of chuggy metal, stir for a while then add a strange scottish medical experiment and simmer, add some skater rock to taste, stew together in a room for a while, garnish with some 90's angst and rock n roll and there you have the perfect recipe for Psychobabylon.

The Futureheads - Headline North East Festival...futurehead

Line Up Including – The Futureheads, Field Music, Frankie & the Heartstrings & many more
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls - it has come to our attention frequently over the past month or so that we may have set the ticket price for the event a bit too high. So many people know about Split as the North East's first music festival of its kind but the general buzz is that it's a bit too pricey. OK everybody, point taken, we put our hands up in the air and say 'we agree!' The public have spoken and this is our response. We are reducing the online ticket price to £12 on the nose. These specially priced tickets are only available online and have limited availability so go to www.seetickets.com or follow the link on www.splitfestival.com to buy your newly priced ticket now!
Our City needs to have its own festival - the music scene is screaming out for it. If we can make this event the success it deserves to be then we will lay the foundations for an annual autumnal shindig that will bring people to our fine citadel from all over the country. Howay Sunderland, let's do this!
If you have already bought a ticket, and are feeling a little miffed, don't worry. All original ticket holders will receive reimbursement in the form of food and drink tokens to be used at the festival (this means BEER!) if they let the organisers at Ashbrooke Sports Club know when you turn up on the day. (They have a list of all who have already bought tickets, so be honest!!)
Feel free to contact us if you have any further queries at
info@splitfestival.com
So just to repeat - limited tickets now available priced £12 athttp://www.seetickets.com or follow the link at www.splitfestival.com

WOODPIGEON @ The End...

Get Involved Promotions are pleased to announce thatwp WOODPIGEON return
to the End on Thursday 6th August after the last sold out show from previous tour.

Calgary's Woodpigeon's chamber-folk concoctions of banjo, glockenspiel, choir and Mark Hamilton's diffident vocals make for thoughtful melodious moments and joyous rock-outs. Combining the mystical comic-book
fantasies of Mark's lyrics with the sparkling music of the band, comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and his delightful ilk aren't far wrong, setting Woodpigeon up to be the next great Canadian breakout band.

Treasury Library Canada (End Of The Road Records) Press Quotes

"**** It's bloody marvelous." -SUNDAY TIMES

"**** An inspiring meditation on exile and return." -THE GUARDIAN

"**** Seductive." -MOJO

"**** Melodic and affecting." -Q

The Cluny - best venue in Newcastle ...cluny

The Cluny has officially been acknowledged as the best venue in Newcastle upon Tyne!

Hot on the heels of opening The Cluny 2 – a 160 capacity, theatre-style venue – and being lauded by the Telegraph (“…the appearance of a downtown loft bar in some hip quarter of New York…Students and ale fans, artists and artisans from the surrounding workshops mix and match in a wonderful way. “) The Cluny’s reputation as the number one place to see live music was confirmed on Sunday night, when the venue won the Generator Best Live Music Venue Award at the Best Bar None Newcastle awards’ ceremony.

The glittering event at Newcastle’s Civic Centre saw manager Julian Ive collect the trophy on behalf of The Cluny, which beat off competition from Northumbria University Students Union, The City Hall and 02 Academy among others to claim the top prize.

Jim Mawdsley - Senior Project Coordinator at Generator, and head of the Best Live Music Venue Award selection panel – praised The Cluny, saying the venue has “continued to provide the best platform in this city for unsigned and up-and-coming bands and thoroughly deserved the accolade. Despite the company being relatively small, it and its staff have invested heavily both personally and professionally in The Cluny, and it is an example of a venue that supports both experienced and fledgling promoters, an essential ingredient for any live music scene.”

Single released for - The Sophie Lancaster Foundation...

On May 11th 2009 Beholder will be releasing a unique worldwide download single through Lime Records with all proceeds going to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Sophie sadly died on August 24th 2007, following the horrific attack on her and her partner Rob in Stubbeylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire on the 11th August.

Sophie and Rob dressed in their unique way, expressing their individuality as creative artistic people.

Vocalist Simon Hall wrote the lyrics for the song "Never Take Us Down" after this horrific and senseless murder and when it was finally put to music

and recorded it became apparent that the lyrics, and song itself, spoke volumes for the beliefs of so many who live their lives in an alternative culture.

From this point on the band then approached Sophie's immediate family and offered the song to them to get their approval.

This they graciously did and from here on they looked at using this as a tool to get the message out to all those who need to hear.
