Peter Henderson - visit to New College Durham...

Producer Peter Henderson recently paid a visit to share his experience with music management students and musicians of New College Durham on Tuesday 13th May 2008.

In a very candid conversation with Circulation Sound’s Graeme Robinson about his music production career, Peter described how he went on to receive a Grammy for producing Supertramps’ Breakfast In America album.
With engineering and production credits with Paul McCartney, Frank Zappa, Climax Blues Band, Jeff Beck, Tubes and Rush; Peter also presented Toontracks’ Superior Drummer software which he helped develop.
The drum workshop showcased an exceptionally realistic sounding piece of music software which is used by professional musicians and producers worldwide; and after the session, Peter donated a copy of the software for New College Durham students to use in the colleges’ recording studio.

Music management students in particular enjoyed his visit and some students were also offered a chance to work with him in London as part of their work experience. Enquiries about joining the Foundation Degree in Music Management course should be directed to Andy Wain on 0191 375 4565 or by emailing andy.wain@newdur.ac.uk.

'DIABLO' - NEW ALBUM, OUT NOW...

DIABLO have just released their third studio recording! This time it is singer Davy Peckett's long awaited solo album of another ten of his original compositions, entitled "Quietly In The Background". Davy plays 90% of the instruments as well as all vocals. There are added guest backing vocals by Samantha Hutchinson from Allendale and Borderland's Mark Harrison.
Additional musicians include Steve, Paul and Dave from DIABLO, plus Les Smith from Borderland on keyboards. Like DIABLO's "A Violet Scent Of Rose", Davy's album was recorded here in Newcastle at Base HQ Studios and was engineered by Rich McCoull. The album is now available at all DIABLO gigs or from Overplay.co.uk (where you also hear some of the tracks), and a CD launch date will be announced shortly. The tracks are: Go On; Last Chance; One Life (Tell My Mind); Panic Attack; Read My Story; Regrets; Run Away; Sayonara (2008); Washed Out and Your Road.

If anyone would like a copy, and is not able to make a gig imminently, just email our usual address: dave2109@btinternet.com and we'll arrange to get one to you. The album carries a special price of just £8 - and if there's anyone out there who doesn't have Diablo's "Violet Scent Of Rose" debut album, we have a special offer on of both albums for £15.

Best Wishes,
Dave Drums Diablo xx

NIGHTEND by TELOS! - New album 31st March 08...

Bear With Me Records present, with some love, the new album by one of the Dirty Electro scene’s most maverick innovators: Telos. This is the follow up to 2006's Translucent. The sound of all the boiler rooms in the world plotting to rise up and overthrow their bastard human oppressors. The murk of the corrupted, hardwired crackles of threatening, unwieldy dissonance gobbing the ferocious bass of pulsing radio sub-frequencies. All in a heartwarming smelting pot of smudgy beats, shredded wrists, demented Psy-Crunk, analogue warmth, clicks, tricks, and nervous ticks. The first single, 'Changed', is released as a free download on 25/02/08. This malodorous minute meoldy is backed by two exclusive additional tracks, including a collaboration with Sunderland electrapunk duo, Coldseat. **** If you desire a promo CD of this album please let us know and we'll ship one right out. Alternatively, an mp3 version of the promo album can be downloaded here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/dksfax **** Feel free to pester us for further info or hi-res artwork scans / promo shots. www.bearwithmerecords.co.uk  bearwithmerecords@hotmail.co.uk  www.myspace.com/telos06

DIABLO - TREADING FAMILIAR BOARDS...

The lovely Louise Sutton left the Blacksmiths Arms in Gosforth last year to manage The Gosforth Hotel Pub just across the road as it happens. And DIABLO is delighted to be asked to be the first live band to perform in their function room for many years on Friday April 4th. In the 1970s, The Gosforth Hotel was inundated with A&R men, managers, producers and media people. Alan Hull of Lindisfarne and their manager Barry McKay were often there. Mark Knopfler played at the pub before he found fame with Dire Straits. The resident group - a jazz funk band called Last Exit played every Tuesday night. On electric bass was one Gordon Sumner, local teacher and the band's bassist/vocalist. He talked about taking the band to London. And he did in a manner of speaking - he met drummer Stuart Copeland, changed his name Gordon to Sting, and formed The Police!

thanks to,
Dave Drums Diablo

Comedy Duo - Win National Award...

North East based comedy duo Straitjacket have won a 4Talent award for the UK's most exciting young creative artists.
The talent arm of Channel 4 held the nationwide hunt to find the best up and coming talent in the U.K. and stumbled upon the work of Tom Bennett and Ian Todd.
Their comedy video sketches include a father complaining to Childline about his abusive children, and a man claiming he can’t go to the pub with his mate because he’s pregnant.
The material won high praise from the judges, eventually landing them with the gong and a swish awards ceremony in the heart of London.
The pair - from South Tyneside - have been working on their distinctive brand of comedy for four years having already staged two successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival and a host of local and national screenings.
They are delighted to finally get some recognition in their home country - having already made an impact on the US comedy scene.
Tom and Ian have just penned a sketch show pilot with the help and guidance of American comedian Bob Odenkirk, who worked on hit US shows Saturday Night Live and Seinfeld.
He discovered their work by chance when browsing on video-sharing site YouTube and fell in love with their original and surreal style of comedy.
Since then Bob has helped show their work in New York, San Francisco, Hollywood, Los Angeles, Vancouver and more recently the Montreal Comedy festival - all to very positive reviews.
Now Straitjacket are hoping that the new pilot will make an impact with comedy fans in America.

Visit www.straitjacketcomedy.com for biography, sketches and news.

The Colt .45s. - debut single release...

The Colt .45s are a band based in Durham, North East England, described by The Crack magazine as “obscure, feisty electro punk”.

The single is released Monday 24th September 2007 exclusively on 7” vinyl by Leaving Home Records, a subsidiary of Filthy Little Angels. FLA have been Radio One’s Label of the Week and Steve Lemacq’s Website of the Week, and have released singles named NME’s Vinyl of the Week and XFM’s Single of the Week. In the past, FLA have released singles by The Long Blondes, Art Goblins and Neils Children.

One of the newest bands on the label, The Colt .45s have been together just over a year and have so far only released a free download EP via the FLA website, which received good reviews. After the single release, the debut album release is scheduled for Monday 29th October 2007 on FLA.
