Surface Festival 2012 - is already the biggest year on record...

logo

It’s official – Surface Festival 2012 has now kicked off across Europe and this year is the biggest year on record!! For up to the minute updates follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/surfacefestival

2012 will see Surface Festival rolling out the first European tours involving bands handpicked by our area managers. Alongside these European tours we will be hosting over 600 shows across major cities in the UK and Europe. New areas will include Berlin, Huelva, Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba, Málaga, Jaén, Granada and Almería as well as Barcelona, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford, Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol and London. The International Showcase will take place at the internationally recognized 02 complex in London, at which the best bands of the Festival will play in front of an invited industry panel. This year the panel will consist of major music industry bods like Jon Brookes (The Charlatans) and Alex Baker (Kerrang Radio).

Alex Baker from the Kerrang Radio Unsigned Show, explains: "Surface Festival gives bands a genuine opportunity to get their music in front of people in the industry that can help further their careers. The prizes offered for the winning band and runners up are just fantastic and the experience all the bands gain from playing larger venues is priceless."

Liquid Fuse describe the experience: “Surface Festival has been one of the best things that has happened to us so far – it’s given us the opportunity to play at venues we wouldn’t otherwise be able to play at right now, given us exposure to people in the industry, and helped us cross over with other bands and fans. It forces you to look critically at every part of your band (your music, your image, your performance, your promotion) and as you build momentum through the stages and play progressively bigger venues, you and your fans begin to feel a sense of collective achievement and pride that really fires everyone up. You’ll come out of it a better band than when you started.” For a full list of testimonials see: www.surfacefestival.com/testimonials.html

Jon Brookes from The Charlatans, who has been involved in the Festival from its beginnings, recently stated in his blog: “Surface continues to act like a giant music magnet finding exciting ground breaking new acts. It re-energizes the inner cities searching out new talent. The prizes and industry weight of the various associate sponsors shows the level at which this festival is now held in the industry.”

With amazing venues booked for 2012, including the O2 in London, globally world-renowned sponsors, and more prizes than ever on offer, Surface Festival 2012 will be an amazing experience for everyone involved. For further info and to apply to Surface Festival see www.surfacefestival.com.

SOS FESTIVAL 2012 - 7 BANDS CONFIRMED...
sos
SOS Festival is delighted to announce the first 7 bands for the 2012 event which takes place on 21-22nd July….
Tygers Of Pan Tang, Exit State, Max Pie, Gone Til Winter, Triaxis, Wizzard & Broken.
Tygers Of Pan Tang, who will head up the Saturday for us, are currently writing & recording towards a new album release on Rocksector Records in 2012. The album with a working title of “Ambush” will be the follow-up to the critically-acclaimed “Animal Instinct” from 2008. Watch out also for UK Tour news soon.
Exit State released their 2nd album “Black Veins” this month, after switching label to Rocksector Records, & their innovative uber-slick video “Check Out The Crazy” is just about to hit primetime viewing on Kerrang TV. This is a 2nd video success for the band whose earlier video “Lost Beyond Belief” from debut album “Death Of A Rockstar” hit number one on Kerrang’s Most Requested Show last year. Exit State are currently on tour in the UK, promoting the new album, & after supporting Voodoo Six in Manchester on 20th November, also playing Relentless Garage in London, then hometown Burnley, will be heading off to play Hard Rock Hell V in North Wales alongside bill-toppers such as Ace Frehley, Therapy?, Magnum, Black Stone Cherry & more.
Max Pie hail from Belgium & bring their own brand of Power Metal to the festival. Their sound which is characterised by their aggressive, power, melodic & progressive elements resulted in debut album “Initial Process”, appealing to fans of bands such as Rhapsody, Kamelot & Symphony X.
Gone Til Winter are Manchester-based gothic female-fronted melodic metallers. Headed up by vocalist Talena, they released a single “Hear Me” & self-titled mini-album on Headroom Records & are currently planning for a follow-up album in 2012. Rosie Smith, from Cradle Of Filth, has recently joined on keyboards.
Triaxis are from South Wales & should be well-known to fans from both Bloodstock & Hammerfest festivals where the band have played headline-grabbing performances during the past couple of years. Their self-released album “Key To The Kingdom” won plaudits from high places such as Metal Hammer, Terrorizer & Zero Tolerance, & they further impressed on UK tour dates this year, including dates with Fury UK & Kobra & The Lotus.
Wizzard are Belgian traditional hard rock/metallers who played also for us at SOS in 2011 & won many fans in the process. Headed by vocalist Wizz, they bring a heavily NWOBHM-inspired sound which has been helping their growing reputation during the past 2-3 years.
Broken are relative newcomers on the UK scene. They’re Yorkshire-based, & are quickly earning a reputation for their infectious, kick ass hard rock grooves delivered with a rock n roll swagger, all helping the band develop a loyal following.
This is the 5th year for SOS Festival, a 2 day indoor rock & metal event, featuring a mix of Rocksector Records artists showcased alongside well-known bands, plus emerging bands from around the UK & abroad, plus a local Manchester area contingent too. In 2011, the festival was headlined by Scottish rockers GUN & Rocksector band Fury UK, & previous headliners have included Blaze Bayley, Black Spiders & Heaven’s Basement.
The event takes place at Radcliffe Civic, in Radcliffe, North Manchester. It runs a main stage & an acoustic stage, has an all-age policy, & benefits from plenty of free parking, good local transport links & inexpensive hotels within easy reach. Ticket prices are equally beneficial at just £10 for single day tickets & £15 for 2 days, which can be bought from Ticketline or the Rocksector Records webstore.
More bands will be announced as soon as possible.

OUT OF THE TREES VII  MUSIC FESTIVAL - WARKWORTH VILLAGE...

TAKING PLACE ON SUNDAY 18TH DECEMBER, 2011.

THE OLD MEMORIAL HALL, 7:30-10:30PM

Our festival started in 2004 with a mere four bands on the bill, including this year’s Bella Union starlets Lanterns on the Lake, and has grown in profile and scope over the years. Here we find ourselves doing our seventh event. To mark this occasion, we have decided to look inwards and go back to a simple days worth of events in two locations in the sleepy village of Warkworth near Amble in what we would imagine to be a snowy Northumberland at this end of the year.

Our roots are still showing as our faithful Dreadnought bus will be carting our loyal crowd from Central Station, Newcastle to the village in the early afternoon and the event kicks off at around 3pm. For around three years now we have been raising money from the event for charities such as SPOWE UGANDA and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation amongst others.

The festival is a chance to experience the best of the North-East music scene, whilst basking in the winter cosiness of traditional Northumbrian pubs and community halls, having been transported there on a genuine vintage 60s double-decker bus.  The event has a uniquely warm and friendly atmosphere that both musicians and punters love - whether they're 6 or 60, indie or folky or experimental, beardy or trendy, short or tall...

The line up this year is very exciting for us to announce as we admire the artists playing and they have established reputations.  We are also championing a few acts who we feel deserve a wider platform and greater exposure.  It’s all personal taste, but we hope you’ll agree that our festival has passionate organisers and we are striving to please anyone who wants to come and experience something a little unique and interesting amongst the many million festivals out there that become so overblown that their meaning and intent is lost.

We don’t want to blow our own trumpets either, we are always very self critical and aware, so with that in mind, we let the line up speak for itself.

PRICES/TRAVEL INFO:

To summarise, prices for this year’s festival are: £10 full day ticket, return bus and both venues

or if you only want to attend part of the day: £2 for afternoon session, £5 for Old Memorial Hall event, £4.50 return bus fare.  No advance tickets are available, pay on the doors or bus. Money raised from the above is going to this year’s charity SPOWE UGANDA.

DREADNOUGHT BUS WILL TAKE YOU TO AND FROM THE VENUE, PAY ON THE BUS.  BUS DEPARTS FROM CENTRAL STATION, NEWCASTLE AT 1PM, DEPARTS WARKWORTH AT 10:40PM, RETURNS TO CENTRAL AT APPROX 11:30PM.

LOTS OF EXCITING OOTT THEMED ITEMS WILL BE FOR SALE COURTESY OF THEE RUINER, A ZINEZINE, T-SHIRTS and possibly more! There will be refreshments available at the Memorial Hall of which the proceeds are going to the cause mentioned below.
